Running Late for Tennis Lessons? Take A Plane!

Friday, March 7th, 2008

Apparently some parents will do literally anything to ensure their child arrives on-time to
a tennis lesson. Even of it means flying them in a small plane, landing it in the snow of a nearby golf course!

Just can’t make this stuff up…

What makes this story even more wild for me is I work just around the corner from that golf course. In fact, I drive past the fairway every weekday!

Living in Chicagoland, I can’t count the times I wished I had a helicopter or plane to get me across the area.  Not that it would be feasible, but its fun to dream of escaping the gridlock that can occur here on a daily basis. Crazy as it was, this guy actually did it!

I meant to blog this earlier this week since it occured this past Saturday, but alas, it slipped my mind.

Bear Down! Chicago Bears are Super Bowl Bound!

Sunday, January 21st, 2007

2006-2007 NFC Championship trophyDAAAAAAAAAA BEARRRRSSSSSS ARE NFC CHAMPIONS!!!!!!! LOOK OUT SUPER BOWL XLI HERE COMES THE CHICAGO BEARS!!!!!!! WOOOOOO HOOOOOO!!!!

If you couldn’t tell I’m ecstatic that Bears are headed to the Super Bowl! As a life long Bears fan, it’s been a long 21 years since the days of the ‘85-’86 Bears championship season. Today the Bears won 39-14 as the snow was falling in a game that could have been an even bigger blowout.

The Bears defense showed up big time and dominated all game. And yes the offense was great pounding the ball with Cedric Benson and Thomas Jones on the ground and great play by Rex Grossman and Bernard Berrian in the 2nd half. The Bears played a great game all around, with only one penalty for five yards and ZERO turnovers.

To the plethora of national media, ESPN, and even local media that picked the Saints to win this game saying the Bears didn’t have a chance, it seems you all missed the mark, BIG TIME! So much the hype of the Saints being a “team of destiny” or a “feel good” story and their so-called “unstoppable” offense. One request to all of those so-called “experts”, please pick against the Bears one more time in the Super Bowl. Its great bulletin board material for the team and will again prove how little you all know.

For your listening enjoyment the Chicago Bears Fight Song here.

Lyrics:

“Bear down, Chicago Bears, make every play clear the way to victory;
Bear down, Chicago Bears, put up a fight with a might so fearlessly!
We’ll never forget the way you thrilled the nation with your T-formation!
Bear down, Chicago Bears, and let them know why you’re wearing the crown!
You’re the pride and joy of Illinois, Chicago Bears, bear down!”

One more game to go… GO BEARS!!!

Da Bears Season Is Over

Thursday, January 19th, 2006

Bears SuperfansHere in Chicagoland the football season has sadly come to an end.

Da Bearsssss lost daaaaa NFC divisional playoff game my friend. Pass da haaat dawgssss, braaaatsssss and saaasage. (Think in a Chicago accent… It’ll make more sense. If you don’t know what that is, come to Chicago and you’ll hear it) If we only had a team of all Ditka’s.

For some reason I wasn’t very surprised the Bears lost to the Carolina Panthers last Sunday. They did a little too much trash talking leading up to the game and were rusty in the 1st half, since they sat out the starters for the last regular season game. In the end, it was a flawed defensive scheme that was their downfall. A surprise considering their performance throughout the season. It was a fun season to watch nonetheless. Now the sports doldrums take over here for the next 2 months until the Cubs spring training.

Did That Really Happen?

Sox CelebrateI never thought I’d ever witness a Chicago baseball team with the World Series. Congrats to Chicago White Sox on winning the World Series on Wednesday night. As I stated in my previous post, I could not jump on the bandwagon as a Cubs fan, but in the end I did not root against them either.

I watched every inning of all four games, including the almost 6 hour, 14 inning Game 3 on Tuesday night. Needless to mention it was an unproductive day at work the next day. It really was that way the entire week since the games always ended late. I wanted to watch mainly because I always watch it every year (barring 2003 for obvious reasons). I also wanted to witness a Chicago team play in the World Series, a very rare occurrence indeed.

Even though it was the White Sox, I have to say this was one of the best World Series I have ever seen. Every game had its own stars, and a large number of strange/amazing plays and situations. It had all of the elements of what makes baseball so great and in the end I must admit I was happy to see the Sox win. For Chicago and for that team. They defined the word “team” and were absolutely deserving to win the World Series.

Sox Parade
The celebration here in the Chicago area has been ongoing since Wednesday night. I am very happy and surprised how peaceful it was. The ticker tape parade and rally that occurred Friday drew 1.75 million, much larger than I ever expected. All of Chicago was proud. It was good to see some of my Sox fan friends enjoying this so much.

The Cubs should take serious notice and learn how to play as a “team” for a change. Get with the program Cubbies!

Footnote: The Sox should have to come up with a better championship theme song to play over and over other than “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey. That song is stuck in my head and it won’t go away! Ugh!

Dilemma Of A Chicago Sports Fan

Tuesday, October 18th, 2005

World Series 2006I make it fairly clear in the header of my blog and links section that I am a tried and true Chicago Cubs baseball fan. Overall I’ve been a Chicago sports fan since I was a very young, supporting all the Chicago major sports teams. That is all but one. The Chicago White Sox.

For those not from this area or not a sports fan, the reason I cannot be a White Sox fan is, well… I’m a Cubs fan, you can’t be both! Now comes the dilemma: Sunday night the White Sox won the American League Championship for the first time in 46 years, advancing to the World Series. This is a big deal because no Chicago baseball team has been to the World Series since the Sox were last there, and neither have not won it since 1917. Needless to say its long overdue for either Chicago baseball club.

Amidst all of the hoopla, I found myself happy that a Chicago team is going to the World Series, but at the same time, not wanting them to win it all. Crazy? Selfish? I suppose. If there were only one baseball team here, there would be no dilemma. But I’m loyal to the Cubbies and will not jump on a bandwagon just because the Sox could make history. In the end, if the Sox win the World Series, I will be happy a Chicago team finally won. However I certainly wish it were the Cubs instead.

Root! Root! Root! For the Cubbies!

Saturday, May 21st, 2005

Today began the summer tradition here in the Chicagoland area of 2 baseball series between my favorite baseball team the Chicago Cubs and the much despised Chicago White Sox. As you can tell I adhere to a strict allegiance to the Cubs. In this area, much is made of this time as both teams have 3 games in their home ballpark.

If you grew up here, as I did and are a sports fan of any kind, you have to choose between the Cubs or the Sox. Those who say they just root for “Chicago” teams and are a fan of both the Cubs and Sox are one of 2 things: 1. Didn’t grow up here 2. Non-committal/boring. Of course I’m joking… somewhat…
In my opinion the choice is simple, what better place to spend 3 hours outside in the spring air than Wrigley Field! I grew up with Bill Buckner, Ryne Sandberg, Leon Durham, Jody Davis, Andre Dawson, etc.. as my baseball heroes. And what better announcers than Jack Brickhouse, Harry Caray and sidekick Steve Stone!
So what if the Cubs lost today! They still can win the series! Ah yes… the eternal optimism of Cubs fans!
